The cooler weather has reduced water temperatures on Iowa's lakes and rivers.  Fishing is more comfortable and more productive as fall begins.
A DNR biologist talks about trout populations and stocking.
The Resource Enhancement and Protection Program (REAP) allocates millions of dollars to conservation and water quality programs as well as improvement of facilities that help our citizens enjoy our state's wildlife and beauty.

Iowa is in the midst of a historic drought.  A bit of rain in places is helping but the rivers are so low that canoes have to be drug to the next pool.  This is not all bad as natives say they will remember where the deep holes are when the water comes up.
I talked to Dan Kirby of Iowa DNR.  He discusses the efforts to stock walleye in rivers and lakes across the state.

September is bringing unseasonable heat that seems to delay the onset of fall.  Water is very low in all rivers so farm ponds may have the best conditions for fishing.  
Hunting season for Doves, Teal and Squirrels is open.  Lucas Dever, Iowa DNR Conservation Officer, outlines the requirements to legally hunt.
A young trout fisherman tells his stories of kayaking, biking and hiking to find and conquer (sometimes) his foe.
